st. petersburg museum of history

DESCRIPTION

The project is an expansion to the existing St. Petersburg Museum of History located on the downtown pier approach. The program is a three-story, 15,000 square foot addition that includes gallery space, a visitor center, conference space, a roof terrace, and support amenities.

History is curated and viewed through a multifaceted and often-times fragmented lens.

This addition becomes the kaleidoscope in many ways, some metaphor, some formal. It takes on the shape of the instrument, simple, elongated, pure. It is oriented toward the City of St. Petersburg’s downtown to the west and the New Pier site to the east. The exterior shade structure functions as a lens, serving to create visual interest. It refracts colorful projected light representing a focused but fragmented view of the local culture. While it doesn’t provide light into the second story gallery space, it figuratively collect and interpret our surroundings.

The project is slated to be complete in the first quarter of 2023.
